The third opera of the Ring is named after Siegfried, the son of Sieglinde and Siegmund. In this part the gods clash with humans, represented by the hero Siegfried. The gods and the dwarfs are still trying to get hold of the magic ring, which assures power for the one who possesses it; it is held by one of the giants. Only Siegfried is finally successful - he overcomes all the impediments laid in his way by the gods and the dwarfs, and triumphs in a battle with one of the most powerful gods. Then he sets out to find the place where Brünnhilde lies hidden, having been punished for helping his mother Sieglinde by being cast into a magic sleep. Siegfried frees Brünnhilde from her spell and learns from her everything about his birth. The two fall in love with each other
